  1. Happy weekend! I hope everyone has a special Memorial Day. I'm pretty excited for the next few days- we'll be hanging out with a Medal of Honor recipient at an event in L.A. since my husband works for the MoH foundation. Traffic is bad there so I'll probably get a few books read in the car ;)

    1. How special, Heidi. There are so few living Medal of Honor recipients. Under 200! Please give him my thanks for his heroic sacrifice. God bless him and all our military heroes and heroines!

    2. BTW, do you live in the greater LA area? We lived at Fort Irwin, in the Mojave Desert. Think Barstow and then go 36 miles into no man's land. We loved our time there...but going into LA was always a traffic nightmare. Praying you to your wonderful event!

    3. Sounds exciting Heidi. Enjoy those reads too. Best way to get through traffic as long as you aren't driving. LOL

    4. Heidi! What a wonderful way to spend this memorable holiday!

    5. What an honor and a blessing, Heidi! Your hubby's job sounds fascinating. :)

    6. Debby we live in San Diego. We pass Fort Irwin when we go through Calico on our way north to Utah. That really is no man's land!

My husband is a high school history teacher but 1-3 times a month he travels with recipients to locations all over the country training teachers and administrators on the Medal of Honor Foundation's character education curriculum. It's been such a blessing to our family and he's been able to rub shoulders with some amazing people.

    7. While at Irwin, the children and I would head to Coronado Island each summer for some beach time. Loved it there. My husband would join us if his schedule permitted.

Calico Ghost Town was always a fun spot. Whenever anyone visited, we'd take them there. Always loved stepping back into the Old West!

I goggled the M of H foundation. It sounds wonderful and so needed these days. Thank your husband for the important work he's doing to direct students along the right path. God bless him!

  2. Good morning, Seekerville! Congratulations to all the winners... and huge thanks to all of you for making my Wednesday in Seekerville so much fun! I had a great time!!!

Busy planting, writing, cleaning weekend here, all weather dependent, of course.... and then Monday morning we all troop off to the village of Hilton and cheer on everyone walking in our Memorial Day parade. Rain or shine, we'll be there!

A three-day weekend.... Oh my stars, this is a welcome thing! :)

    3. It's a 3 day weekend here, but I'm trading one job (babysitting) for writing/editing to meet my deadline.

Niece's 2 yo is having a birthday party Sunday, and it's likely we'll have a family get-together on Monday and I'll get baby time anyway.

      Win/win!

    4. Good morning guys. ;) Ruthy sounds like she packed in a load of fun for the weekend. I hope everyone stayed safe and sound. We had lots of afternoon showers.

I ventured out to a craft store that had some yarn on sale (my only other shopping escape since the Christian bookstores are gone). And I bought a Craftsy class...or two...lol. They had a sale for Memorial Day - goody goody.

Please sign me up for a beach read giveaway! Sound like good escapism.

I just finished reading Jill Elizabeth Nelson's new book (Rocky Mountain Sabotage). I stayed up 'til 3am finishing it - awesome! :D It was sooooo fun - think of it: a sabotaged charter plane with a whole bunch of executives on board along with a mom and her single daughter...and the main pilot who is ex-military (did I mention he was single too?). After a crash landing in an abandoned mining town in a valley without an exit - what could possibly go wrong? Oh, golly!

So yeah, it was blissful escapism. And after the FB conversation about John Wayne westerns, I loved the abandoned town idea. :D

Have a safe week guys. Take time to smell the roses. <3 <3 <3

  6. I am especially grateful to Seekerville this week for Ruthy's and Melanie's posts. I was going to put something on social media, specifically on LinkedIn, and those two posts helped me to draw back and reconsider. Not every thought needs to be expressed, especially on Social. I decided to concentrate on the writing instead. Have a busy weekend planned with planting and cleaning, like Ruthy, but also know I can skin off some time for writing. I met with my crit partner Thursday for our usual chapter-of-the-month. Working on my Speedbo project, which I guess is now my WIP, going through my draft with Debby's Easy Editing Tips, and last night I began Deconstructing a Romance Novel with Tina's tips from earlier this year. Feeling blessed.

  19. This was in my FB feed and is most timely:

    What's the Difference?

Memorial Day is the day we memorialize, and celebrate, those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and died in military service for the United States.

Veterans Day is the day we celebrate and say thanks to those that previously served in the United States military.

Armed Forces Day is the day we celebrate and say thanks to those currently serving in the United States military.

    1. But we can thank our service members no matter the day...

So thank you, Tina Radcliffe, for your service. Cara Lynn James deserves our thanks too! We're proud of you!

    2. I was wondering about this. In Canada we just have Remembrance Day so I wasn't sure what the difference was between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. And I've never heard of Armed Forces Day. Always learning something new in Seekerville.

  28. Happy Memorial Weekend Seekers.
I spent an hour or two at the cemetery with my mom on Wednesday. Always a really lovely time of reminiscing about my dad and the other family that have gone before us.
Dad was a Veteran and my mom's active (at age 89) in the American Legion Auxiliary and sold poppies at our local grocery store on Friday.

  29. I sneaked in some writing time this morning, now must get ready for church.... we're planting here (between rainstorms) and life is crazy busy, but I had to slip over here and say howdy again... I installed a new fireplace chimney yesterday and the floor for the new chicken coop, all of which will go into a book... and gets things done here in case the males of the species are too busy. :)

I'm practicing with power tools and I have to say, I'm learning so much! I'm getting there!

  30. Tomorrow, after the parade in our little town, we go to the cemetery and plant flowers in the Blodgett family garden we created. Uncle Charlie was a decorated Korean war veteran, so we make sure the kids understand what's gone before.

  32. Happy Memorial Day weekend to Seekers and Villagers. Now that my kids are out of school (yes, their last day was Thursday, and their first day back is August 1), I have to use the weekend to work hard on edits, but the good news is I will hopefully be writing a new first draft very soon. I hope everyone is having a good weekend. (And a shout out to my father who served in the Air Force and both of my grandfathers who served in WW2. I will be thinking of all three of them tomorrow).
