  1. Oh, huge fun congratulations to all the winners from this week... and I can't wait to see what MYSTERY FRIDAY brings along! Not only because I love mysteries.... but I sense something OUT OF THE NORM COMING OUR WAY. And being slightly abnormal myself, I love to go outside of the box!!!! Come by Friday and see!!!!

I have a week to write... no kids this week, winter break, and it's way too muddy and yucky to do anything outside...

So it's Ruthy + Laptop + cleaning and our new bathroom project gets started this week.

I have been waiting 30 years for new bathroom and the plumbing in my sweet 163 year-old house is 70 years old. That's old for plumbing. So we're turning a storage room into a full bathroom and then we'll tear out the powder room that's in the kitchen.

I have never understood that old idea of putting bathrooms in kitchens.

But I digress... that's my week. Hope yours is fun and fruitful.

And as Lent continues, may God bless us with grace, hope and quiet joy. And noisy joy too, especially if babies or kids are involved.

    1. 163 year old house? I love it! Thank you for taking care of it and giving it a facelift when needed, Ruthy. When we bought our house 30 years ago, the only thing I didn't like was the bathroom. They had used cedar boards as wall covering - I felt like was walking into an outhouse everytime I went in. It took my husband 5 years to tear down the cedar boards and refinish the walls.

Gotta love the great outdoors, even when it's inside, LOL.

    2. A powder room in the kitchen? Hmmm, that's a new one. lol But my guess is that if the house didn't have indoor plumbing when it was built (163 yo, yes?) then when plumbing was added, they added water to the kitchen and either immediately or later tee'd off that and added a powder room in an existing pantry.

And, Ruthy, I'm officially jealous of your remodeling chutzpa!

Our house is 30+ years old and I have a list of things i want done, but hubby and my FIL have been contractors for 30 and 55 years respectively, so remodel jobs like mine have always been on the back burner. I keep trying to find a good time to actually DO it, but there's never a good time to remodel. And deciding where to put a bit of extra cash is always hard.

Trade in the old (but still serviceable) car for something a bit newer...
Or pave a few more feet of the I-Go-Mud-Riding every time I leave the house driveway...
      Or tackle the remodel job...

The list is exhaustive and usually we end up buying a tractor or replacing a piece of farm equipment instead. Such is the life of a farmer's wife. :)

    3. Audra, I'm so laughing at your comment about the cedar boards. My den is furnished with un-painted cedar lap siding that is normally used on the outside of a house. I love it! :)

It took about 10 years for the smell of cedar to go away.... Hmmm, that might be why I was on Zyrtec for 20 years!

    4. Lots of work but SO worth it!

      I'm chuckling too. :)

      Y'all are so fun!

    5. Ruthy, are you going to make the powder room into a pantry? Or will you just expand the kitchen?

      Delete
    6. Oh, I love these comments! Pammers, they actually moved the kitchen... which had plumbing.... and turned the dining room into the kitchen, separated the kitchen into a laundry room, stairway to basement and store room.... and then put the powder room in the kitchen. I can't even....

AND OUR DRIVEWAY IS A SEA OF MUD right now.... oh, Pam, I hear you! :)

Missy, once the new bathroom is done we'll demo the old one and it will look choppy for a while because I can't afford to do the kitchen, but I'll incorporate it into the kitchen... and give us room for a normal table. Right now the "nook" only holds a table that's 36" wide and if you're not a small person, no one can fit around you to get to a seat... totally awkward. So do I tell my wider friends and relatives "Hey. Go sit in the back by the window..." Of course not! Just a funny way to do the whole layout, but we'll have fun with this new arrangement. I'm beyond excited!!! When the demo got finished this past week, I was YAHOO!!!! :) Up to then I wasn't sure we'd get things done in time for the plumber, but yes. Happy Ruthy.

  2. This is so cool. I won Ruthy's mystery last week, and Linda Matchett, a friend of mine here in NH, won it this week! It's a small world after all! Linda and I will be in a panel discussion on writing and publishing next Saturday.
Going to work on some stuff, back later,

  3. Good morning, Everyone! Congrats to all the winners. Remember to send your info to our email address to claim the goodies.

It's very windy along the Front Range of Colorado. But, our temp is warm. I'm sitting out on our deck babysitting the Corgi puppy while she frolicks...you see, she can only play on the deck while the Troll (Hank, our Coonhound) is still in bed. He does NOT want to share any part of the house with the puppy. My husband says Hank will come around, I'm not buying it. So, we steal playtime while the big dog sleeps.

I'm aiming for 1-2K today. I talked about storyworld in my post this week. I finished up the outer rim and am now working on the B&B that will be the heart of this book. So fun!

    Have a great day!!!!

    1. Audra, we have one dog and she's very territorial. I'm not sure she'd accept another dog, and especially not a cat.

We had a young Blue Heeler show up here for a couple of weeks that got along well with our dog, but he was a "wanderer" and ended up going to someone else's house. He came back, then left again. I posted a "Found Dog" on a local Lost/Found site, but no one claimed him. In the end, an acquaintance about 5-6 miles from us took him because he was a friendly dog.

I'm not sure if he's still there, but he would have made a great addition to our household... other than the fact that when we were away, he amused himself by chasing the cows. And of course our older dog thought that was fun and joined in. But we couldn't have a dog that chased cows, and we're constantly having to get them up and fix fences. Not happening. Sorry pup.

    2. Audra,

Not to worry. Hank the Cow Dog... errrr the Coonhound (!) will come around. They do. You'll see. :)

Stay warm and enjoy the B&B dreams! We love the tradition some B&Bs have where guests bring Christmas ornaments to share. We've been to several that do that so we've started taking a small ornament representative of TN when we travel.

Awhh Pam, thanks for trying to help the pup. Last year, which was filled with loss, we acquired two foundlings and both are still with us. Makes for a lively household ~ 4 dogs, a cat and a horse. Heaven for a vet's daughter.

    3. Cow chasing is not allowed.... nor chicken or cat chasing here. Or donkey chasing. I love dogs, but they can be naughty critters!

Of course right now Jeter and Libby are sleeping at my feet. So they're good for the moment!

    4. KC, I'll take heart in your confidence. Poor Dobby wants to play with Hank so badly, so I take her to puppy playtime and obedience classes...and every two day after the event, she comes down with runny bottom. I guess, she'll just have to settle for mom walking her a couple of times a day!

    5. I'm with Ruthy, no cow chasing! The poor things get to running and don't care what they crash through!

  8. I'm excited that I won Audra's book! But it looks like I will have to wait until I am back home tomorrow to claim it. The hotel Wi-Fi doesn't seem to want to send my email.

We are in Denver getting ready to head out this afternoon for my nephew's Eagle ceremony. It is a fun weekend with all my siblings here and most of our kids. We were especially fortunate to have a beautiful weekend for traveling.

Hope everyone else has a great weekend.

  9. That article about third vs first pov was interesting. I keep saying I am not a fan of first person narrative and then I read one and can't imagine the story told in any other way. And ist person present tense...really not a fan...but then I read something like the If I Run series by Terri Blackstock and I'm converted. lol So, I guess the moral of the story is never say never and write/read true to the story. Happy weekending everyone.

    1. Good point, Kav. I'm so used to reading novels in 3rd person, it takes me a while to get used to 1st. I've started reading cozy mysteries. Most everything is in 1st. I've gotten used to it.

I guess I should clarify, I've gotten used to reading it, no way can I write it!

      Delete
    2. I love first person past tense. But I have trouble reading first present. Once I get into it, though, I can adjust. One of my long-time critique partners loves to write it. I begged her to change it to past tense, but she wouldn't budge. ;)

    3. My daffodils are coming up in the front/protected side of my house. No blooms yet, but it won't be long!

    4. Debby, don't you love how houses have micro-climates all around them? The back of my garage is protected so our rhubarb always comes thick, gorgeous and early.... The front is north-facing and shady, so it's the last to bloom, but when it does, it bursts forth! So fun to see things "creep" around....

And Wilani, it will! I'm patient. I've got lots of work to do inside with writing and cleaning. :) I'm better off with a late spring, my friend!

  13. Congratulations to the winners and to Ruthy for her #1 Wishing Bridge. Mine's audible, so I need to scrounge out sitting time to listen. I can't multi-task as my hearing disability demands full attention.

It's been in the 40's early morning and 70's daytime here in the Nevada desert. Enjoying the cold while I can.

    Happy Weekend!
