In December, writers are trying to finish all the writing things and all of the Christmas things at the same time.
In December, writers are trying to finish all the writing things and all of the Christmas things at the same time.
Writers be like…
And this…
And sometimes this…
But, things don’t always go as planned at the end of the year. All of the Christmas and New Year’s stuff takes up all of our brain space. So writing often looks a little more like this…
Or even this…
The good news is, it’s January now. January feels full of promise and butterflies and sunshine.
Okay, that's actually summer. But you know what I mean. Because suddenly, we have a fresh start. A whole new year. We start making lists of all of the things we’re going to accomplish.
We dream big, letting new ideas flow.
The words we couldn’t find at the end of the year suddenly arrive back in our heads and we start working like…
Until we get to a tough part of the book and remember that writing is always hard work.
But the good news is, we still have a lovely new year ahead of us, filled with possibilities.
So hang in there, writing friends, when the days are long and the word count is short. You can do this!
Today I’m feeling like this…
Because I’m celebrating the release of my new book, The Rancher’s Unexpected Baby! (This is the GIF that comes up when I type in my book title…haha!)
I'm giving away a copy of The Rancher’s Unexpected Baby to one randomly chosen person who comments below. (Paperback for US and ebook for international.)
After his marriage ended, Gage Frasier vowed he’d never remarry or have children—but now he’s guardian of an orphaned baby boy. Thankfully, his friend’s sweet sister, Emma Wilder, offers to nanny while Gage seeks a more suitable family for the child. But soon Gage finds himself bonding with his new son…and with Emma. Parenthood surprised Gage, but will love sneak up on him, too?

Okay, this was just an incredibly fun blog post! And loaded with truth! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new release, Jill!
Thanks, Erica! <3
DeleteHi Jill:
ReplyDeleteWow! Should that baby be out in the snow with no hat or gloves? Is that Oklahoma where there can be snow on the ground it still be 70 degrees? I have the feeling if that cover was a gif, like your funny examples in the post, the baby would be shivering! :)
In any event, my biggest ask on books like this one is: Is the baby the hero's? Is that part of the plot or could you tell us?
One of my favorite romance themes is hidden child and favorite scene is the moment the hero figures out the child is his. I would put that moment on the cover art.
Can you tell us about the theme without a spoiler?
Vince
Ha! I did think the same about the baby shivering. It's set in Colorado, so he definitely would be. I posted the back cover blurb below...the baby is orphaned and the hero is the named guardian. :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI'm laughing because the first two got coats and hats and mittens and extra booties.... and by #s three, four and five and six.... we were much more into "throw a blanket around the baby, he'll be fine."
DeleteWE ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE but no one died.
That's my saving grace.
No one died. ;)
Babies and animals always make a book more fun to read.
ReplyDeleteThey sure do, Kim.
DeleteAgreed! :)
DeleteI am in total agreement here. :) I love me some babies and animals!!!!!
DeleteI totally agree with you'all about babies and dogs and lambs (not cats for me) being hard to resist. At least when it comes to inspirational romances. The romance I just finished reading was bought from an author new to me because it had the cutest quadruplets on the cover.
DeleteOf course, it was on a ranch…this time in Wyoming. I could not believe that the author could make taking 24-hour care of quads romantic. Especially since the mother had a serious case of post partum depression and would do nothing to help with the babies! I'd love to see that book proposal!!!
And of course again, the Love Inspired authors are the best in the world and she made the whole mess a big success. Anyway, one look at that cover and I downloaded the book within the first 60 seconds. Great cover art does sell books!
Without a doubt, now I'll have to read your book because there are few things more inspirational than giving a baby a good home when the alternative would be a life in loveless state institutions. Doing that is really being a real man. Strong, heartwarming, and inspiring.
Vince
Vince, that would be our other Jill-friend, Jill Kemerer. I read that book, too, and absolutely loved it. But you're right about wondering how it was going to be romantic.
DeleteYes! The other half of The Jills did a fabulous job on her book. I loved that one!
DeleteGood morning, Ms Lynn,
ReplyDeleteI had to go directly to the end of your post - this was a bit too gif heavy for my eyes and all the flashing of the images was a bit too much for me - however, I believe I gathered the gist of your post about how sometimes we're all trying to start a new chapter in a New Year and we feel a bit frantic at times to pull all our ideas and goals together?
I pulled up your website to see if this was the first/second/etc in a series and happily found out it is the second in the Love Inspired series! I have a love of these novels as my Mum & I used to belong to Heartsong Presents - when that folded we moved into Love Inspired, though we shifted off the Historicals/Contemporaries for the Suspense line as it fit her 12 hr shifts for a hearty break of lit and I loved the switch-up. However, we still read LI titles quite regularly which is why I was keen to source if this was a one-off or serial.
Ooh wow. A new ranch series -- I must confess, I fell hard for Karen Rock's Rocky Mountain Cowboys & the continuity for Return of the Blackwell Brothers... ooh boy. Colorado Grooms, yes please! I really :love!: Western Romances & Cowboy Fiction - the West is alive with big open skies, prairie grasses, open fields, horses & ranch living.... seriously what is not to love? Those mountains make a flatlander like me a bit jealous too as they bring an environment of inspiration all of their own.
Did Gage adopt his son? I was curious if this is a kinship adoption story or an open adoption story? It seems like Gage knew the mother which makes me consider it an open adoption? Even if privately arranged,... I seek out stories like this as I'm going to adopt in the future. It didn't sound like this was his biological child or maybe I misunderstood the premise? The blurb seemed to be going in a different direction,... as the first novel in the series was about an unknown pregnancy wherein the bloke was a father without realising it.
Thanks for this lovely bookaway - I'd love my hat in the ring for this one.
Good morning, Jorie. Thank you for stopping by. Your hat is in the ring.
DeleteHi Jorie, it is the second book in a series, you are correct. Lots of kids in this series! :) The baby is orphaned and the hero is the named guardian. Thanks for stopping by! <3
DeleteThanks for addressing my question although I think I won't fully know my answers until I read the story. I was really curious about how he became a part of the child's life but I wasn't trying to spoil the reveal... just was curious how he became legally responsible but as you said he's listed as guardian. So, I suppose in that context it is more like the film "Baby Boom"? Where someone wasn't expecting guardianship of a child and suddenly became the sole legal guardian.
DeleteGood morning, Jill, and good morning, Seekerville. What a fun way to wake up. I'm not afraid to say that I may resemble a couple of those GIFs. Oh, and is there anything sweeter than a handsome cowboy kissing a baby? Be still my heart.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Me too, girl. Me too.
DeleteWell this is all kinds of GIF cuteness! Thanks for the morning smiles :)
ReplyDeleteAnd a cowboy kissing a baby?! That's all kinds of yes!
<3 I do love this cover! The art department did a great job.
DeleteGood morning Seekers! My coffee is currently brewing and I wanted to check in before waking kids and driving them to school. Thanks for the comments - it's so fun to hear from you all. Here's the back cover blurb for those asking...
ReplyDeleteAfter his marriage ended, Gage Frasier vowed he’d never remarry or have children—but now he’s guardian of an orphaned baby boy. Thankfully, his friend’s sweet sister, Emma Wilder, offers to nanny while Gage seeks a more suitable family for the child. But soon Gage finds himself bonding with his new son…and with Emma. Love the cover of your book and I especially love your last giphy. That baby feeding the chickens is too previous! Congratulations for The Rancher's Unexpected Baby!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that funny! I love it. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteJill, this was such a fun post to scroll through this morning. Congratulations on your new release. It sounds wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christina!
DeleteThis was a fun post, Jill. The book looks great. Please enter me in the drawing.
ReplyDeleteWill do. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe gifs were funny. But it's actually the opposite for me. December was low key, a break from writing. January, however, is back to the busyness of regular writing and marketing routines, plus additional goals I'm working towards.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, Lila. January is like trying to play catch-up.
DeleteI'm glad you had a break in December! It's always hard to get back into the swing of things.
DeleteThis is fantastic! I am a sucker for funny GIFs! And, although I'm not a writer, December seems like that in the editing world as well (or at least in my world). Trying to juggle the parties, the presents, the family stuff, the kids' activities, the decorating, and getting a little work done here & there. #Stressful
ReplyDeleteBut January dawns a little more relaxed. Although still busy with work, there's less "extra" stuff demanding my time so it seems like a breath of fresh air!
Beth, no matter how much we plan, there is always "extra" stuff in December.
DeleteExactly! I feel the same. It's like I can breathe again. :)
DeleteI LOVE JANUARY. I don't care what the weather does, I just love, love, love January because I can get back on schedule and produce things and I am soooooo happy!!!!!
DeleteLove the gif pictures. Congratulations on your new book. I do want to read it.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Wilani. I can't wait to read it.
DeleteSo glad! Thank you!
DeleteBwahahahaha!!! This is way too much fun! And...thud...that cover!!!!! This is me swooning silly! Plus this book should be landing on my doorstep with my HQ order today. Eeeeeppppp! It's going on the top of the pile! Happy Book Release, Jill!
ReplyDeleteyay!! that's awesome! <3
ReplyDeleteLoved your FUN post, Jill. There are always so many great GIF's it's hard for me to choose just one to represent what I want to convey! LOL I think you hit the ball outta the park on your choices!
ReplyDeleteI ADORE cowboys...always have, always will!! And babies...baby anything , really!
Thanks for brightening my chilly raining overcast Tuesday!
Please enter me in the drawing! Thanks! Have a tea-riffic rest of the day!

DeleteCongrats on your release! And I have to say, this was the most entertaining post ever! Loved it!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I'm so glad. Thanks for brightening my day!
DeleteYou had me laughing! January is always my "Write-a-book-in-a-month" month! :) It's the perfect time to sit at my computer and create a story.
ReplyDeleteEvidently others feel the same way.
So glad you could be with us on Seekerville. Love the cowboy and baby on your cover...and the blurb hooked me, for sure! Congrats, Jill!
