Monday:  Open Critique Day! Always a fan favorite!! Even though Ruthy was in North Carolina and forgot to mention it.... Thank you Missy Tippens for jumping in and huge thanks to the brave souls who dared to share their work... believe us when we say that this is HUGELY IMPORTANT to handling editors, agents, rejections and reviews... You just can't please everyone, darlings!

Wednesday:  Candee Fick talked about giving readers what they want. In addition to sharing her manuscript wishlist as a new romance editor, she also gave away an advance reader copy of A Picture Perfect Christmas to Sherrinda Ketchersid.

Friday: Marilyn Leach joined us with tales of England as she researched her latest cozy mystery, All Hallows' Dead.

Monday:  Mary Connealy is our hostess. Mary will be giving away a copy of her novella collection: Three Christmas Novellas.

Wednesday:  Mindy Obenhaus will attempt to answer the age old question Where do I start (to write a book).

Friday: There are times when readers must choose NOT to read. Beth will hold your hand and offer comfort for those tragic occasions (like weddings).

Our own Ruth Logan Herne will be at the Art of Writing Conference and The Christy Award Gala on
November 7th at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.

  1. Good morning, everyone! So excited about Ruthy going to the Christy Awards ceremony!!! Wish I could be there to support her!

Congrats to the winners! Love all the new and recent releases! More stories to read.

    Who's taking part in NaNo?

  2. Thank you, Debby. Not doing NaNo because I am still revising my Genesis winner to submit to my agent requests. It's amazing how much work you have to do even after you've won something! Iron is definitely sharpening iron here, but it's worth it. Also received a prompting from Pelican for my second Oregon Trail novel, which is done but I still have to do the paperwork.
Having a rough week. Too many things are crowding in to prevent me from doing the above. I know I have to get tough and say no and be assertive and insist to be treated like a professional, but we're Not There Yet.
Good luck Ruthy, except I don't believe in luck, your God-given talent will get you where you need to go.

    1. Oh bless you! I believe you're right, and I'm saying it right back to you. "The harder you work, the luckier you get".... that's an old adage but it hits the mark, doesn't it? Eventually the fly on the bottom comes around to the top of the wheel and if he's patient and stays focused, he'll see a whole new world.

It's like that with this business, too. We never quit. We keep on keepin' on.

      Thank you, lovely lady!

And yes, the contract is just the first of VERY MANY steps! :)

      EEEK!

  3. Good Saturday morning, everyone!

It's a busy Saturday for me, between writing stuff and family stuff. But, hey! We get an extra hour tonight!

Best wishes to Ruthy in Nashville! Wish I could be there with you. :-)

And no NaNo for me...Like Kaybee, I'm too busy writing!

    1. Thank you!!!! Hey, I agree.... I focus on writing all the time so NaNo doesn't do it for me. And I'm kind of a lone wolf (hear the how-how-howling??????) so I'm better working alone. No one wants to hear me get snarky! :)

  4. Good morning all,
It's a busy day for me as I begin to purge closets, cabinets, desk drawers, etc. in the hopes of being able to move by the end of this year. Staying in the same town, but moving from an apartment to a house. So excited - I'll actually have my own office again!
I hope to write a blog today - I have one rolling around in my head.
CONGRATULATIONS to Ruthy! I can't wait to hear that you won!

    Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

    1. That's exciting, Edwina! We're hoping to move by next spring from a house in town to a house in the Black Hills. But when I look around at the painting, cleaning, organizing, etc. that needs to be done... whew!

Have you found your house yet?

    2. This is so exciting, Edwina! I'm so happy for you! And an office... I'm kind of giggling because I rarely use my office for writing, but I love having one. What is the matter with me??? :)

Praying for you and Jan to find the perfect house... and I'll come help you move.

      I'm kidding.

      I'll order pizza for you.

That's almost the same, right??? :)

  5. I've been at the Dallas Arboretum today, having a blast in the gorgeous Texas sunshine. But I had to stop in and see all the news and links! I'm sooooo excited to have won Candee's new book!!!! Yay!

I wanted to say thanks, again, for the critique on Monday. Such a blessing to have feedback!

And Ruth, I'm cheering you on in Nashville! I heard we could view the awards ceremony somewhere...I need to check that out!

    Now I'm off to NANO.

    1. Sherrinda, thank you! And I'm glad you're having fun in Dallas... Are you visiting there? My plan is when I go there in the spring that I take a car and drive to Waco and see the Silos... and the bakery.... and anything Magnolia related.

I am in love with Chip and Joanna Gaines!

And the Christy Awards will be broadcast live via FACEBOOK on Wednesday night at 7:30 Central time....

And I am still pinching myself. For real.

  7. Congratulations Ruthy!

This has been a busy day with preparing for Children's church and writing.

Participating in Nano and pleased with my progress. The last two years I had difficulty completing when I just stuck to one book. So this year decided to work on all the works in progress instead of beginning another one. This way if I get stuck with one I can move to another one. Besides I hope to see a lot of progress in all of them. So far I'm at 11 k for only 3 days in spite of the vertigo and all the responsibility to get ready for tomorrow.

When I opened the dresser drawer to pull out my sweaters and get ready for winter. I discovered a mouse nest in my dresser and several ruined sweaters. I called my friend on the phone that night. Just so I wouldn't be alone while I disposed of the nest. Now I have major cleaning and sterilizing along with preparing to put rat poisoning in every room. I also discovered they stupid critters have been eating my unopened food in the pantry. There just aren't enough hours in the day to combat them plus deal with vertigo. Writing is my reward for working so hard. I read online that Potato flakes also act as poison. I think I would rather put potato flakes in my cupboard and on my counters as opposed to the commercial poison.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

    1. Oh, sweet thing, sorry about the mice! I re-bait my attic and basement annually because we always get one or two inside... and that's with three patrol cats combing the perimeters like hungry soldiers!

This summer we got a baby gray squirrel in the house... that was a test between him and me, I tell you! And then a flying squirrel... I didn't even know there were flying squirrels in WNY but they're here and I expect a cat brought him in and toyed with him...

Both squirrels were returned to safety, bless their hearts but the mice aren't so easily caught... so it's bait for them. Wilani, you've got this!

  8. Ruthy, I'm so excited for you going to the Christys. I will not be home Wednesday night to watch it live. I wonder if I can see it when I get home? I will definitely be checking it out. Safe travels to you.

  9. Great WE!

    And WOOOOTTTT!

Ruthy will be at the Christy Awards as a finalist and HOPEFULLY WINNER(!), Melanie is presenting... Who else will be there?

    ME ME ME!!!

5 of us from our writer's group here in little ol' Crossville are driving the 2+ hours to be with you all.

Terrific conference last year, plus gala evening with dinner. Yum.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and got to cheer on the winners - some I knew! How 'bout that? Mostly through Seekerville. :)

And got to meet, in person, Walt, Piper, and Melanie... plus Chris Fabry and others. It was just great.

Anyone else coming this time? Be sure to say HELLO!

Y'all come next time if you've not made plans for this year. It's great!
