God Bless the USA!

 INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND!!!!!

This is a time we celebrate.

A time we extoll the virtues of a free society, the time we celebrate the gutsy moves of a long-ago people who stood up against tyranny and unfair practices, who wore buckskin instead of red wool and carried muskets instead of military rifles.

This is when we watch 1776 the musical and think about the sacrifices made by so many to gain freedom for us. For me. For you. Our children and their children and their children.

This is when we wave flags and post bunting (I am a huge fan of bunting on old porches!) and grill hots and hamburgs and eat pasta salad or noodle salad (Is This As Good As it Gets?) Jack Nicholson or macaroni salad (The Eichas sisters make it with ring pasta... chopped celery... and mayo. That's it. And the family loves it) I like my pasta salad with more stuff, but the fun thing is that we do it...

As a country.

As a people.

Together.

We are so blessed to be part of a free society, but I try and remember that I live freely because of another's sacrifice. Another's valor. Another's courage.

So to all those who have stood in faithfulness to begin this country... support this country... defend this nation... for every stone in Arlington and every other National Cemetery... for every battle-weary or wounded veteran...

For every warrior, man or woman, who held the line and for those who couldn't hold the line, we thank you.

You blessed us and bless us still, so from all of us in Seekerville, we wish you all a Happy Independence Day!

If you have favorite Independence Day things you do, share them below. Ruthy has copies of her first Kendrick Creek book "Rebuilding Her Life" to give away... and a copy of her newest mysteries "Patterns of Deception" or "Prescription for Mystery"...

Your choice, but first you must say something about 4th of July or family gatherings or what makes you love America.... Or even about noodle salad!

Wishing you the very best and safest holiday weekend ever!

From The Seekers!

LET FREEDOM RING!

  1. We love Independence Day! We will spend time together as a family eating burgers and ice cream sundaes, plus we live in a neighborhood that really goes all out on fireworks. So we'll get outside with the neighbors and blow stuff up LOL

And say a prayer of thanks to those brave men and women who banded together with their "lives, fortunes, and sacred Honor" to bring America from a dream to existence.

    1. Us, too! There are no big parades around here.... more's the pity. But we have a beautiful Fireman's Celebration parade at the end of the month with lots of flags.... God bless this land.

And yes, lives... fortunes... sacred honor.

      Beautiful, Glynis.

  2. Happy Independence Day!!!

I love this holiday so much, I made sure my daughter was born on the 4th of July!

No, I tell a lie. Yes, she was born on the 4th, but no, I didn't choose that day. She came in her own sweet time - three weeks early. A firecracker from the start.

So our 4th of July celebrations always include birthday cake!

This year, since the 4th is on Sunday, we'll spend time worshipping before our birthday cookout. Such a great way to remember why our nation came into being.

    1. Jan, yay for Carrie! And how cool is that, an Independence Day that begins where it should: With community, with God. Oh, yeah! Let Freedom Ring!

  3. Depending on the weather we like to go to fireworks. Usually with a big paper sack of popcorn and some cans of pop. Hubs also likes to grill out and is planning steaks and pork chops this year. It's an exciting 4th for him because he gets to go back to work after breaking his thigh bone in 5 places in January. It took this long to heal! But we feel blessed because he broke it out at the barn on one of those bitter colds nights with the wind howling and we didn't find him for half an hour.
