    3. I watched baseball games get "snowed out" not rained out. Spring sports up here are a real mercurial kind of thing!!!!

  2. Must read the article about writing fast that mentions "The Spock Brain!" I'm clueless as to what that means.

I'm working on AAs, the final step in a book's journey on the writer's end. It's always exciting to see the story come to life.

Happy Spring to all of us, except Ruthy! We have the AC on in GA!

Have a delightful weekend, dear friends!

  3. Weekend Question:

Has anyone ever encountered a "Marriage of Convenience" romance that didn't work out?

    I haven't in over 1,500 romances!

    Does Convenience Trump Love?

I think Janet Dean's, "The Substitute Bride", was the most unsuited bride ever: a fake mail order bride, married for her convenience who had no homemaking skills and took the place of the real mail order bride, (who got cold feet on the train to the farmer) as she was running away from her rich family to avoid a forced marriage. Not only was she totally unfit to be a farm wife, she was not even the wife the farmer ordered! This story was fun to read on every page because the heroine had no skills and yet she made a perfect wife for a farmer in the middle of nowhere. Loved it!

    1. I loved that story as well, Vince! Janet is a talented writer! I long for her to pen more stories!

    2. Vince, you're so sweet to say you loved The Substitute Bride! The fish out of water heroine was fun for me to write! Though a few readers disliked Elizabeth because she clung to her insecurities and refused to allow herself to love Ted, most understood how the wounds of her past had harmed her. I'm excited that The Substitute Bride is re-releasing July 2 in a Two for One Classic with Carla Capshaw's The Gladiator. It's such a blessing to see these stories make the shelves again!

    3. Debby, thank you so much for those kind words from you, a most talented writer! I've got to say, retirement is pretty nice. :-) Now if I had your drive, I'd still be writing!

    4. Hi Janet:

How wonderful from a marketing POV to have a 2 in 1 book with Carla Capshaw! You will both draw in very different prospects…way different in a an important way! I've read fiction about the Roman Empire all my life. When "The Gladiator" came out I had discussions with Carla to encourage her and to praise her excellent knowledge of Roman history. She was worried her other two books might not be published as there were no other such books in house. Well, Harlequin did publish "The Protector" and "The Champion" but then the publisher wanted more popular Regency and post Regency type romances. I'm sorry Carla could not go on writing about the Roman period as she is very good and she loved doing it.

I just know that the two of you will generate the kind of synergy that marketing people love. Bona Fortuna!

  5. Hi Winnie:

Surprised to see the heroine of your,"The Unexpected Bride," is wearing eyeglasses. I commented a few years ago when another romance heroine also wore eyeglasses how rare that was. Do those eyeglasses pay an important part of the story? Also, were eyeglasses shown on the cover of the 2001 edition? So many people wear eyeglasses, even beautiful women, it just seems strange that eyeglasses are so very rarely seen on romance covers.

  6. Hi Vince. Yes, the eyeglasses, or "spectacles", help define who she is. And no, the 2001 cover did have that which disappointed me at the time.

  7. Wow!
    Winnie

I saw the cover on that 2001 book and it has a 1970's style reverse bodice ripper cover! I sure like your new cover much better! Now I am super curious above the new edition. Can't wait.
