I am a Writer!

By Debby Giusti

I am a writer.

Characters live in my mind and tell me their stories. I bring them to life on the printed page so others can delight in their antics, learn from their mistakes and celebrate their triumphs.

Sometimes I create worlds that have never before existed, but more often, I reveal something new about that which seems ordinary or commonplace.

No matter the genre or the setting, stories teach, inspire, affirm and entertain. They underscore truth, expose darkness and bring the hidden to light in unique ways that grab the reader’s imagination.

In addition, they reveal the depths of human suffering and the heights of human achievement.

I don’t work alone. The spiritual realm encourages me, and the Lord God Himself directs my hands to ensure the words, seemingly pulled from thin air, have meaning and merit.

I’m blessed to share in the creative process in such a simple yet challenging way, and I invite each of you to follow me on your own writing journey.

Write stories, write articles or editorials, how-to books or memoirs and journals. Pick up your pen or turn on your computer, and begin today to create that which needs to be told.

Ignore your insecurity, still the negative interior voice that says you cannot write, and step boldly onto the creative path. Remember, once you begin to write, you are a writer so give your Muse free rein to explore the stories buried deep within you. Write about fear to become brave, write about heartbreak to appreciate love, write about death to embrace life more fully.

You have something important to say, and by pulling from the kaleidoscope of your thoughts and actions, both past and present, you’ll breathe life into a new reality seen through your own personal lens. Then you, too, will encourage and uplift someone, somewhere and somehow, who needs to read what you have penned.

Come write with me, dear friend, and allow the sparks of your imagination to ignite the world.

Wishing you abundant blessings,

Debby Giusti

  1. Good morning, Debby!

Thank you for this reminder. Life gets busy, especially this time of year with new everything connected with the beginning of the school year. Even though I haven't had children in school for many years, I still feel it. A new Sunday School year, a new Bible study year, fellowship group starting up again after a summer off...

In all that busyness, remembering what God has called me to do can be reduced to another item on the to-do list.

But THIS - the hours at my computer with just the Lord and I navigating through the process of getting stories out of my head and into a book - THIS is what I do. This is who I am.

A much needed reminder at the start of a very busy day!

    1. I feel that I'm coming out of a long Covid fog. No, I didn't have Covid, but I've been weighed down by the pandemic and the suffering of so many as well as the pitting of one group against another that is rampant these days. It's as if my head has cleared, and I'm, once again, finding purpose in my writing. I'm glad the words of today's blog post--given to me one morn last week as I embraced the new day--were meaningful to you, as well.

  2. You don't know how much I needed that headline today! I have been talking with God a lot about this lately. I'm still not sure what He wants out of my writing in this season of life, and I'm sure we'll be continuing the conversation, but that post is exactly what I neededc to hear. Thank you!!

    1. Glynis, I'm glad you found the blog post beneficial. I needed to write it, for sure. As I mentioned in my response to Jan, I feel that I'm finally coming out of a Covid fog!

Don't get discouraged. Write! You have something to say that someone needs to read! Trust me! You do!

  4. On a different note, I attended a renewal of wedding vows this morning for a wonderful couple who are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. So special. God bless Barb and Jim!

  5. Thank you, Debbie, for your words…both blog posts and novels….which inspire. “Then you, too, will encourage and uplift someone, somewhere and somehow, who needs to read what you have penned.” During busy or stressful times, a moment spent reading refreshes me….not really escapism, but a chance to recharge with a story of hope and faith. I hope my words give respite to those who just need an inspirational break. Thank you for your thoughts, books and prayers! You bless us all!

    1. Your words remind me of how often Jesus took time away from life to recharge.

  6. I've been visiting Seekerville for the last couple of years or so, blessed by the encouragement found here for both my writing and my faith. Cyberspace is not a place where I am very comfortable, so I seldom respond, but today I must. I need you to know, Debbie, that your post is a direct answer to prayer. You addressed almost point for point all the things I wrote in my prayer journal this morning as I took to God once again all my anxieties and insecurities about launching into the deep, dark, mysterious waters of this whole novel writing business. As I read what you wrote, I heard Him say, (once again) "Yes, my daughter, this beautiful gift of writing really is for you." Thank you, Debbie, for the affirmation that words really do matter because you never know whose heart desperately needs to hear them.

    1. Terri, your comment brought tears to my eyes. You're the person God wanted me to reach out to through this post. I'm so glad we could connect on Seekerville, and I'm so glad that you felt moved to share your thoughts with us. Let me affirm what you already know. God is calling you to write! He has stories that only you can reveal to the world. He wants to work through you. So step boldly onto the creative path. Take my hand. We'll walk together!

I'm so excited about what the Lord has in store for your future! :)

  8. Thank you Debby for such wonderful encouragement! I have struggled during the last 18 months for many reasons. God has recently prompted me to write again and I am excited to have written many devotions in the last few weeks. Blessings!

    1. Oh, Edwina, devotions are so important. They lift people up, they spread the Word of the Lord, they draw others closer to the King of Kings. Bless you for responding to the Lord's promptings. I've struggled during the Covid time too. It's been hard on so many of us, but we have to look beyond the negative and embrace the future and what the Lord has planned for us. Hugs and love to you, dear friend! Keep writing!

  9. Great post! Such an encouragement. Writing has been slipping to the wayside for a while now. The stories speak to me, but finding time to sit down and write seems almost nonexistent. "...begin today to create that which needs to be told." Each day is a new day and a good day to write. Thanks for the reminder, Debby!

    1. Sally, don't be discouraged. Take each day as it comes. Remember even 30 minutes (I set my kitchen timer) can add up to a full-length manuscript! You've got this! Forge ahead and don't look back. Tomorrow is a new day, as you mentioned, and new stories need to be told! So glad we're walking the creative path together!

      Hugs and love!
